This Is Why Some People Are Emotionally Stronger Than Others (What They Practice Daily)

Emotional strength is disguised as an innate trait.

It’s not.

Emotional strength is a learned skill, just as is becoming a great writer or musician. People aren’t born emotionally strong, they learn how to become it. Instead of putting pen to paper or paint to canvas, emotionally strong people practice strength throughout their day.

Just as a writer must first understand language and a painter must first understand how colors comes together, we must first understand how our mind works.

Picture a huge, fluffy, white cloud floating in the sky. There is absolutely nothing in that cloud. This cloud is your mind.

Now, picture that same cloud and imagine a flock of birds heading straight towards it from the south. These birds are your thoughts.

Now, picture another flock of birds heading for the same cloud, from the north. These birds are more thoughts.

Now, picture ANOTHERflock of birds heading towards your cloud, from the east. These birds are even more thoughts.

From your vantage point, you can predict that these birds are all going to collide. And sure enough, they do.

Birds start flying everywhere as each flock makes impact with each other. Pretty soon the fluffy cloud is a mess of feathers and squawking birds. It’s loud, hectic and none of the birds can figure out where to go.

This scenario happens daily in your mind. Your mind is a blank slate that you add thoughts to every moment of each day. Each thought is a flock of birds heading towards that cloud.

When you’re feeling emotionally weak, you’ve allowed to many thoughts to come into your mind. Understandably, your mind goes into a frenzy trying to decipher what is going on. Quickly your peaceful, fluffy cloud becomes a battle of feathers and squawking.

What your mind has that this cloud doesn’t, is the ability to turn away thoughts. Just because you think something, doesn’t mean it’s true.

If you want to be emotionally strong in life, you have to learn to listen to each thought and either allow it to stay in your mind or lead it another way.

If the thought empowers and moves you forward, it’s a thought worth keeping.

If the thought makes you feel small and incapable, turn it away.

Emotionally strong people understand that they are in control of where their mind wanders, and they choose to use it as a tool for positivity and productivity.

And you can too.
