The 4I Framework for Decision-Making Every Entrepreneur Needs to Use (Based on 1,000+ hours of Psychology Research)

Researchers created it to show how leaders of a company go from making a decision to institutionalizing it.

The first step of the 4I Framework is intuition.

(these researchers specifically use the verb form of the word to show this as an action)

How do you define intution?

“Executive intuition is the skill of focusing on those potentially important but sometimes faint signals that fuel imagination, creativity, and innovation and feed corporate success in globally competitive business environments.”

But here’s my favorite definition:

“intuitions are affectively charged judgements that arise through rapid, non-conscious and holistic associations.”

AI is already helping companies in the last 3 stages of the 4I Framework:

Phase 2: Interpreting Phase → Plug your data into Claude and it’ll show you graphs and charts that tell you if your intuition is right or wrong.

Phase 3: Integrating → Connect apps with AI automations.

Phase 4: Institutionalizing → Create SOP workflows that integrate AI elements for faster completion (ex. writing personalized emails to clients).

And it’s time to bump that help back to the first phase of decision-making.

Phase 1: Intuiting

In this phase, AI isn’t going to do it alone (like it can in Phase 3 and Phase 4).

People come together with AI to form a ‘‘hybrid intelligence’ (coined by Paydas Turan & Sadler-Smith in 2023).

This hybrid intelligence “combines the intuitive judgement that only humans can process by synthesising and sensing with the algorithmic powers of analysing and solving capabilities of computer-generated AI…”

AI is an intellectual thought partner.

  • One that can pull from a list of hundreds of mental models.
  • Or guide you through a thinking framework based on questions from your favorite entrepreneurs.
  • Or show you where you’re blindsiding yourself thanks to your cognitive biases.

But if you ask AI for business help…it’s probably not going to give you a great response.

And unfortunately that’s user error.

You need to be specific about what you want from your intellectual thought partner.

You need a curated prompt that tells the AI what decision you’re trying to make and the thought process you want to go through.

That’s when hybrid intelligence enters the chat.

Your intuitive judgement 🤝 AI’s plethora of knowledge

Your intuiting gets a massive upgrade. And now the interpreting, integrating, and institutionalizing you do in your business are based on more data, logic, and reasoning than ever before.

This week’s Thought Exercise inside ThinkWithAI is going to focus on working with your intuition to find the data, logic, and reasoning that helps you figure out the best decision to make.

You can reuse the prompt over and over again as you need to make new decisions.

(You’ll always have access to the prompt as a subscriber)
